10 ways to reuse old mismatched socks

It’s happened to all of us. We’ve taken a load of laundry from the dryer only to realize we are missing a sock (or several). Perhaps you put them away in a drawer in hopes of finding their counterpart later. But what happens if you never do? Before tossing your mismatched socks, try the following ideas instead.

  • Dusting mitt – Put your hand inside the sock and use it to clean your blinds, ceiling fans, baseboards, and furniture.
  • Bean bags – Turn your old socks into fun game pieces by sewing them into squares and filling them with pinto beans or another inexpensive filler.
  • Coffee mug cozies – Help keep the heat of the cup away from your hand by cutting a sock, sewing the edges together, and slipping it right over your mug.
  • Dog toys – Use a tennis ball or an empty water bottle and place it in the toe part of the sock, tying the end of the sock into a knot to keep the item secure.
  • Dry erase/chalkboard eraser – Instead of using paper towels to clean your board, wipe the board clean with a sock instead. Then, just throw it in the washer when you’re done!
  • DIY chia pet – This is a fun activity to do with your kids. Put some grass seed and dirt inside of a sock, tie it off, and then decorate the face with felt or marker. You can even add arms by using pipe cleaners. Water your chia pet a little each day, and soon the grass will grow and look like hair.
  • Potpourri sachets – Help your closet and drawers smell good by using potpourri or a similar product like Downy Unstopables. Cut the toe end of your sock off, fill it with your chosen scent item, and secure it tightly. Just make sure not to leave the sachets somewhere little hands or pets could easily get into.
  • Coin purse – Children’s socks have the cutest colors and prints. Turn a single baby sock into an adorable coin purse by sewing a small clasp to the sock. This a great and easy gift idea for both girls and women of all ages.
  • Dry mop pads – Save the cost of having to buy pads for your dry mop by using old fluffy socks. Simply cut off the toe of a sock and slip it over your dry mop. Once it’s dirty, just throw it into the washer to be cleaned.

Although the sudden disappearance of your socks can get a little frustrating, you can now try some of these fun DIY craft ideas to save you from having to throw your mismatched socks away.
