Stacked or side-by-side, which laundry set is best for me?
Whether you’re working with a dedicated laundry room, a closet, or basement space, consider some of the features both stacked and side-by-side washers and dryers provide to ensure your laundry routine will be the best one possible.
Stacked washer and dryer set
One of the great things about stacked units is their compact size, which works exceptionally well for apartment or condo living or if you have a smaller dedicated laundry area. Stacking your washer and dryer vertically also gives you more floor space to store accessories like brooms and mops.
A disadvantage to stacked units’ elevated height is the possibility that a short, disabled, or elderly person may have a hard time reaching the control panel or lifting armfuls of wet clothing into the dryer on top, and therefore may need a side-by-side laundry option instead. Also, although stacked sets clean just as well as side-by-side sets, you could get a slightly less laundry capacity depending on the model because they can be less deep than full-size units.
Side-by-side washer and dryer set
Full-size side-by-side units tend to have a larger capacity, allowing more clothes to be washed at one time, which could be a significant factor when deciding on which unit you will need. If you have a good-size laundry area, you should have plenty of space to set your washer and dryer side-by-side comfortably. Doing this will allow you to choose from either a top-load or front-load, giving you space above your machines to sort and fold laundry, or to add more storage above by using cabinets or shelving.
Still can’t decide?
If you’re still not sure which washer and dryer setup will work best in your space, lease before you buy. Brand new laundry sets are long-term investments, so consider not only what your laundry routine is today, but how it could change in the future. You may buy a stacked washer and dryer set and months later realize a side-by-side set would have been a better choice.
Leasing provides flexibility
Leasing allows you to be flexible not only with the choices you have in equipment but in cost as well. You can skip the upfront costs and hassles knowing you won’t be stuck with expensive machines you have to keep for years or try to resell, possibly losing a lot of money on your purchase.
