Ways to remove the creases from your new vinyl shower curtain

Nothing ruins the look of fabric more than ugly creases. So, to get your vinyl shower curtain looking its best, you’ll want to smooth out any wrinkles that are caused from being inside the package. 

Here are three easy ways to complete this task:

Placing the curtain in the washing machine 

The easiest way to eliminate creases with little effort is by tossing your shower curtain into the washing machine along with a couple of dirty bath towels and some detergent. To help reduce the buildup of mold and get rid of the new smell, add half a cup of white vinegar to the load. Wash the curtain on the delicate cycle in warm water until the machine reaches the rinse cycle. Remove the curtain and hang it up to dry.

Using the heat from an iron or hairdryer 

Place the curtain on a flat, clean surface. Set the iron or hairdryer on a low heat setting and then run it over the creases in small circular motions about a half-inch to an inch away from the curtain. It may take several minutes to get rid of the wrinkles, so this method will require a little patience. To avoid melting or damaging the vinyl, never place the iron or hairdryer directly on top of the curtain or hold the heat over one area for too long. 

Removing the creases with a squeegee
Spread the curtain open on top of a flat, even surface. Working in sections, use the squeegee to remove the wrinkles by pressing down on the fabric and lightly pulling the squeegee over the folds. Make sure the squeegee doesn’t have any sharp edges or parts that could rip the fabric and carefully work to remove the creases. You may need to go over the sections several times until the curtain is smooth.
