How to remove wine stains
Grapes used to make red wine contain pigments that immediately soak into fibers and set in within seconds of a spillage. Acting fast to treat wine stains means the difference between wearing that piece of clothing again or throwing it away because that stubborn wine stain just won't come out.
1. Blot wine stains with paper towels. Don't rub the stain. Press down on the stain and soak up as much wine as possible. 3. Pour club soda, seltzer, or another clear carbonated drink on wine stains. The carbonation works to dissolve grape pigment causing the stain.
4. Blot wine stains with one teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide and one teaspoon of Dawn dishwashing liquid. Always test an inconspicuous area of the stained clothing before using this method since hydrogen peroxide is similar to bleaching agents. Once the stain disappears, wash the clothing and dry according to instructions on the garment.
5. Cover a wine stain with white vinegar and then drizzle liquid laundry detergent on the stain. Vinegar neutralizes purple and red pigments while the detergent cleans and removes the stain.
